Commissioner Nisha Agarwal, Council Member Annabel Palma, Assemblymember Marcos Crespo, and Borough Director for Bronx Libraries Gesille Dixon will mark the opening of the pop-up in a press conference on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) and IDNYC, The New York Public Library, Council Member Annabel Palma, and Assemblymember Marcos Crespo will join to celebrate the opening of a new IDNYC pop-up enrollment center at Soundview Library on Tuesday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The pop-up will run from August 23 – September 9, on Tuesday – Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Soundview Library is located on 660 Sound View Ave in the Bronx.

MOIA’s Commissioner Nisha Agarwal, Council Member Palma, Assemblymember Crespo, and Borough Director for Bronx Libraries Gesille Dixon will speak at this event to mark the importance of IDNYC’s benefits to all New Yorkers.

IDNYC is a free form of identification that is accepted for a variety of City services and benefits. 2016 benefits include free one-year memberships to 40 cultural institutions across the City. IDNYC’s benefits also include access to discounts on groceries, medicine, and the card is accepted as the primary form of identification for 12 bank and credit union branches across the City. IDNYC can be used at any public library in New York City. It can be easily integrated with any account at the New York, Brooklyn, and Queens Public Library Systems, and is the only card that is accepted across all three.

This month Mayor Bill de Blasio released the first comprehensive evaluation of IDNYC, New York City’s municipal identification program and the largest program of its kind in the country. The report confirms that IDNYC benefits every New York City resident, especially our most vulnerable communities. More than half of IDNYC’s 863,464 unique cardholders now use the card as their primary form of identification and over three-quarters of immigrants surveyed reported that the card increases their sense of belonging to the city. 94 percent of survey respondents reported that the process of getting the card was either somewhat or very easy.

“Pop-up sites are crucial to ensuring that New Yorkers can get IDNYC in locations convenient to them,” said Commissioner Nisha Agarwal of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. “This pop-up at Soundview Library will create opportunities for New Yorkers to get a crucial form of identification. Thanks to the leadership of Mayor Bill de Blasio and Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, IDNYC gives New York City residents access to an array of resources, including free memberships at leading museums and cultural institutions and 12 banks and credit unions with branches across the city. This sort of access is what we envisioned when we created IDNYC, and we will continue to seek more opportunities for cardholders.”

“I am happy to announce the new “pop up” enrollment site for the IDNYC program held at Soundview library (660 Soundview Ave.) from August 23rd, through September 9th. At its essence, the IDNYC card embodies what makes our city so dynamic and engaging. What binds us all together is our appreciation for diversity. These cards offer an opportunity for inclusion, this is why Assemblyman Marcos Crespo and myself decided to support this event by co-sponsoring it together. We believe that allowing everyone a chance to enjoy the various amenities that our city has to offer, makes for a stronger and more compelling experience for all of us,” said Council Member Annabel Palma.

“For so many years, hardworking immigrant residents of NYC were left disconnected and feeling unwelcome, afraid to even step foot in their children’s schools, yet today thanks to IDNYC that has changed. IDNYC is an incredibly innovative and successful tool to improve the quality of life for all NYC residents. I’m grateful to Mayor de Blasio and Commissioner Agarwal for their vision, most importantly, I am proud that our very own Soundview Library in The Bronx will now serve as an IDNYC Pop-Up Enrollment Site, further allowing residents in Soundview to take part in the great success of what IDNYC has so far achieved,” said Assemblymember Marcos A. Crespo.

“IDNYC has become a significant part of New York City’s cultural fabric, providing New Yorkers with a sense of community and access to opportunities. As a free provider of education and information for the people of New York and beyond, The New York Public Library is excited to open this pop-up location at Soundview Library, extending the service to the neighborhood and introducing residents to new possibilities,” said Gesille Dixon, NYPL Bronx Borough Director.

Today, all local residents can set up their appointment to apply for their IDNYC card by calling 311 in the language that they speak or online here.
