A Bronx man was charged with driving a stolen car on the Thruway on Saturday after he ran from police and then ran out of gas.

State police said troopers tried to stop the car, driven by Angel A. Figueroa, 39, of the Bronx, for an equipment violation at 1:40 a.m. Saturday.

Figueroa refused to stop and a chase began. Police eventually ended the pursuit due to safety concerns, but continued to look for the vehicle and broadcast its description.

A short time later a state trooper on patrol found the car parked on the shoulder, out of gas. State police said the car had been reported stolen to the New York City Police Department.

Figueroa was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

Figueroa was arraigned in Town of Ulster Court and sent to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Wednesday.
