Is your business ready for the nation’s new health care rules?

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes many complex provisions, which will ultimately affect every citizen, employer and business. There are new mandates, tax changes and penalties. Your benefit plans may need to be reviewed and changed as parts of the Act are implemented. Some changes have already taken effect and more will take effect as early as next year.

To help employers understand the complexities involved in the new health care system, The Business Council of New York State, Inc. will present a series of seminars entitled Implementing Federal Health Care Reform: What New York Businesses Need to Know in five locations across the state.

The seminars will help employers gain a better understanding of:

  • Designing a health care benefit plan that is in compliance with the new federal health care law;
  • What the rules of engagement could be as they relate to penalties, tax credits, premium relief and more;
  • Key elements of the new federal law and how these elements will change how you purchase coverage;
  • Practical tools you can use to reduce or contain the cost of employee health care and improve health care outcomes among your workforce.

The seminars will feature leading tax and health care law experts from Washington, DC and New York State including:

Nancy E. Taylor of Greenberg Traurig, LLP – who has over 20 years of legislative and regulatory experience in advising clients on health care related matters. She served 10 years as Health Policy Director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources. Based in Washington, she played an advisory role in shaping the current health care law on behalf of the Business Roundtable.

Arthur A. Marrapese, III of Hodgson Russ, LLP – who practiced employee benefits law since 1986. He assists clients in the design and documentation of group-based and individualized employee benefit plans. Mr. Marrapese’s clients include group insurance brokers and consultants, plan sponsors, employee benefit plan trustees, and investment advisory firms.

Martin Bienstock of Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, LLP – who practice concentrates on health care law and government policy. He brings a combination of legal knowledge, government policy experience, and litigation skills. He was a Special Counsel to the New York State Department of Health – where he helped restructure nearly 100 hospitals and nursing homes, as required by the Berger Commission and implement Medicaid reimbursement reform, reviewed clinical integration proposals, and helped develop a medical-home demonstration program.

Frank Micciche of McKenna Long & Aldridge, LLP – who represented the Commonwealth of Massachusetts before Congress and the White House. Based in Washington, he provided strategic analysis on issues including Medicaid. He was a primary liaison during negotiations over Massachusetts’ landmark health care reform act and the renewal of the state’s Medicaid waiver.
