Who are your local matriarchs? How do young women lead in keeping diasporic movement, rhythms, and storytelling alive?

Join dancers Margia Shiriti of Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts and Catherine Soliz Rey of Wabafu Garifuna Dance Theater in discussion on building community for and by Bangladeshi and Central American New Yorkers.

We will discuss their journeys as dancers and directors of women led multigenerational dance schools in Bronx. The interview will be hosted by teens from Mind-Builder’s Folk Culture Program, followed by a Q&A with the artists.

This evening will close out our current exhibit, Feelings of Home: Folk Culture and Memory.

Participating Artists and Collectives: Mind-Builders, Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts, Wabafu Garifuna Dance Theater.

The event will take place on May 31, 2019 between the hours of 07:00 p.m. and 08:30 p.m. at the following location:
