Police are asking the public for any information on the death of a 17-year-old Yonkers man who was fatally struck by a Metro-North Railroad train near the Wakefield station in Bronx early Sunday.
Matthew Wallace, a senior at Mount St. Michael Academy in Bronx, was hit shortly before 2:00 a.m. by a northbound local train that had left Grand Central Terminal at 1:15 a.m., headed for North White Plains.
He died while emergency workers were taking him to Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, the railroad said.
“Please pray for the repose of his soul and the consolation of his family,” a notice on Mount St. Michael’s website says. “Special prayers are requested for his brother Mark, a sophomore at the Mount, and the entire school community.”
Wallace graduated St. Barnabas Elementary School in Bronx, according to the Mount St. Michael website.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call them at 718-361-2207 at any time. Callers should ask for the detective supervisor on duty.
