Authorities say the death of a Fort Bragg soldier whose body was found in his apartment over the weekend appears to be a suicide.

Spc. Ricky Russell, of Bronx, was found dead on Saturday morning, according to the Army. Fayetteville police say it appears his injuries were self-inflicted.

Russell was an airborne supply specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

He enlisted in 2006 and served with the 37th Engineer Battalion at Fort Bragg and 173rd Airborne Brigade in Germany before his current assignment.

Russell deployed to Afghanistan from December 2009 to November 2010.

His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.

Russell is survived by his wife, Crystal, of El Paso, Texas; his son, Romeo Dante; and his mother, Danielle, of New York.

The Army said his death is under investigation.
